Elysium Process Giffs

Here's some animated Giffs showing my process (or lack of it) for making some of the Elysium artwork I posted earlier. Sorry about yet more Elysium stuff, but we hardly ever get to show the work we do in this industry, so I'm making the most of it!

  3. “Sorry about yet more Elysium stuff”? Bring it all on!

This is incredible work, it's already setting new paradigms for sci-fi modelling. Just look at all the robots and exosuits at cghub.com for the past half-year.

  5. These are really great. So creative. I have a question which is: when you're working in production design like this, do you need to get clearance on the stock images (pay for them etc) or do you just grab from the net and bash away? I always feel uncertain incase the concepts get shared or published outside the office...?

  6. @Keith, I dont believer that there are any copyright issues with images that have been modified to the extent that these have. The artwork is indistinguishable from the source material.

Aaron, how long will one of these paintings typically take you to do? The top humanoid for example? Fantastic work.

  7. Cheers!

Hey Keith, like emanster says, I think as long as the source images are changed significantly and aren't a critical part of the end image then you're ok. With quick production concept stuff like this I like using photos as it can really speed up the process for a slow and crappy painter like myself. Plus I enjoy the technical challenge of quickly chopping various disparate photographic elements like body parts/limbs etc into a cohesive whole.

These pieces are generally done at a rate of one or maybe two a day. But a lot of that time is spent (or wasted!) finding the right images to chop up.

  9. Thank you. You are both very encouraging and motivated. Do you know? We tried this much because you were here. Can't think without you, how can we pass these days?
